Studio: Discontinuation of GPT-4.1 and Transition to the GPT-5 Family

The GPT-4.1 model family will be discontinued on October 14. If you use this model in any Studio agent, it is important to plan the transition in advance.

More than just a version update, this change represents an architectural evolution: the models move from a direct response logic to a deeper reasoning before responding logic.

 

Deadline

The discontinuation of GPT-4.1 is scheduled for October 14. We recommend reviewing your agents ahead of time to allow for behavior validation before the final deadline.

 

What this means for you

GPT-4.1 will be replaced by a new family of models that includes GPT-5.4, GPT-5.4 mini, GPT-5.4 Thinking, and GPT-5.6 Luna. These models are designed to better handle tasks requiring more context, multiple decision steps, and deeper analysis.

Transitioning to this new family requires an active choice of the model that best fits your use case within Studio.

To ensure no operations stop working, a contingency plan is being prepared: if the migration is not completed in time, there will be automatic routing to maintain the continuity of your Intelligent Contact. Still, the ideal is for you to select and validate the most suitable model yourself.

Checklist

[ ] Prompt review: remove excessively detailed step-by-step instructions. Prefer describing the goal and context; the model decides the path.

[ ] Check output parsers: GPT-5.6 Luna tends to give more elaborate responses. If your agent extracts specific fields from the response, test if the format is still compatible.

[ ] Adjust latency expectations: reasoning models take longer to respond. If your flow has a timeout configured, review the value.

[ ] Test with edge cases: ambiguous scenarios, out-of-scope questions, and malformed inputs. Behavior changes compared to GPT-4.1.
