What is the business username

Companies will be able to adopt public usernames on WhatsApp, a textual name associated with the phone number that facilitates discovery, deep-linking, and direct entry by users. Adoption is optional but highly recommended. Companies that adopt a username, different from general users, will continue to display the phone number registered on their WhatsApp account.

 

Best practices

  • Set a naming standard before reserving

    • We recommend structuring a scalable business username strategy considering the limitation that username use is 1:1, meaning a unique username for a specific account linked to a phone number. Usernames cannot be repeated across different accounts, even if they are in the same Business Manager/Business Portfolio. A clear framework now avoids fragmentation in the future.

  • Consider regional, functional, or product line usernames:

    • @YourBrand - global presence

    • @YourBrand_US - US operation

    • @YourBrand_Support - support channel

  • Reserve strategic usernames before the global rollout as soon as Meta makes the feature available, even if you do not use them immediately.

  • Search for usernames already reserved (if applicable)
