[Extension] How to integrate Google Sheets with Blip July 07, 2025 21:52 Updated Introduction Features Prerequisites Installation and configuration Configuring the integration in Builder Usage example: saving a name and email to the spreadsheet Best practices Support Brief description: Connect your chatbot flows in Blip to a Google Sheets spreadsheet to view, search, and save data during the conversation without leaving the platform. IntroductionThe Google Sheets extension connects your bot's flow in Builder to a Google Sheets spreadsheet. Within the flow, the bot reads values from a range, searches for a row based on a value, or adds a new row with the data collected during the conversation. For example, during a conversation on WhatsApp, the bot asks for the customer's name and email and saves this data in a new row in the spreadsheet, or looks up an order using the provided number and returns the corresponding row to continue the flow. The integration works as a block output action in Builder. You connect a Google account once when configuring the extension, and from then on, you set up read and write actions directly in the flow blocks using the variables from the conversation itself. This keeps conversation data centralized in a spreadsheet without manual data entry. Features Retrieve values from a spreadsheet range and save them to a flow variable. Search for a row based on a value and return the corresponding row. Add a new row with the data collected during the conversation. Supported on the following channels: all channels available on the Blip platform. Prerequisites An active bot in Blip, with the flow set up in Builder. A spreadsheet already created in Google Sheets. A Google account with access permission to the spreadsheet that will be used in the flow. Permission to edit and publish this bot's flow in Builder. Attention: for the add a new row action, the connected Google account must have edit permission for the spreadsheet. For read actions, view permission is sufficient. Installation and configurationInstall the extension on the bot whose flow will use the Google Sheets integration. Go to Google Sheets in Blip Store, find the extension, and activate it for the bot. The extension will appear in the bot's list of installed extensions. Open the bot and, in the extensions menu, select Google Sheets. The extension's Settings screen is displayed. Click Sign in with Google. A Google login window opens. Sign in with the Google account that will have access to the spreadsheets and accept the requested permissions. When you are finished, you will return to the Blip dashboard. Confirm that the connected email address appears in the settings. To switch accounts, click Sign in with another account. Note: by signing in with Google, you agree to Wiv's terms of use and privacy policy. To use the integration in Builder, also install the browser extension in Google Chrome. On the extension screen, click Install extension. You will be redirected to the Chrome Web Store. Click Use in Chrome and complete the installation. Open Builder and confirm that the integration appears in the blocks. Configuring the integration in BuilderAfter connecting the Google account and installing the browser extension, set up the actions directly in the flow blocks. Go to the bot's Builder and open the block where the integration will run. Add an integration action and, in the Integration field, select Google Sheets. In the Action field, choose one of the options: Get values from a range: reads the values from a range and saves the result to a variable. Search for a row based on a value: searches for a value in the range and returns the row containing that value. Add new row: adds a row to the end of the spreadsheet with the provided values. Fill in Spreadsheet ID and Range. Range uses Google Sheets A1 notation, such as A1:B2 or Sheet1!A1:B10. Fill in the specific field for the selected action: For Search for a row based on a value, enter the Search value, which can be a flow variable such as {{contact.email}}. For Add new row, click Add column and enter the value for each column in the order of the spreadsheet. The fields are numbered as 1st column value, 2nd column value, and so on. Each value can also be a variable, such as {{contact.email}}. Under Save response, enter the Result variable. The action's response is saved to this variable, which you can use in subsequent blocks, such as {{googleSheetsResult1}}. Usage example: saving a name and email to the spreadsheetThis flow collects the customer's name and email during the conversation and adds a new row to the spreadsheet. Create a block to collect the name. Under User input, enable Save response to variable and save the response to the name variable. Repeat the same process for the email: create the block, enable Save response to variable, and save the response to the email variable. In an output block, add the Google Sheets integration with the Add new row action. Enter the Spreadsheet ID and Range, and add two columns with the values {{name}} and {{email}}. Connect the blocks, publish the flow, and run a test. With each conversation, a new row with the name and email is added to the spreadsheet. Best practices Keep the first row of the spreadsheet as the header. Use clear, standardized column names. Avoid merged cells and empty columns in the middle of the table. Test with a simple spreadsheet before using it in production. SupportIf you have questions or problems with the extension, contact us by email at support@wiv.com.br. Need more help?
