Brief description: Send your Blip bot events to Segment in real time and centralize conversation data with your CRM, marketing, and analytics tools.

 

Introduction

The Segment extension integrates your Blip bot with your Segment account and sends conversation events in real time. Every contact, message, and tracking event from the bot becomes an event in Segment, which you forward to the tools already connected to your account, such as CRM, marketing platforms, and BI tools.

For example, when a contact starts a conversation on WhatsApp, the extension sends their data (name, email, phone number) to Segment as an identify event, and each exchanged message is recorded as a message sent or message received event. This way, you can track the bot's interaction history along with the rest of the contact's data.

 

Features

  • Send contacts as identify events, including their name, email, city, phone number, originating channel, and additional data.

  • Send messages as track events, identified as Message Sent or Message Received according to the direction.

  • Send tracking events triggered in the bot flows, recorded in Segment as Event Tracked.

  • Automatic real-time sending: the extension registers a webhook in your bot during installation.

  • Support for Segment accounts in the US and EU regions.

Supported on the following channels: all channels available on the Blip platform.

 

Installation and configuration

Before installing the extension in Blip, create a source in Segment to generate the Write Key.

  1. In Segment, access the source catalog and click Add source.

  1. Give the source a descriptive name. To use the extension with more than one bot, include the bot's name, for example Blip-nomeDoBot. Add a label that identifies the source environment, such as environment:dev for the development version.

  1. Click Add source to save. Segment creates the source and displays the Write Key.

  2. Copy the source's Write Key. You will enter it in the extension's configuration in Blip.

Once you have the key, install the extension in your bot:

  1. Open the Segment extension in the Blip Store.

  1. Click Install on the bot whose data you want to send to Segment.

  2. Open the extension panel from the three-dot menu and select Segment.

  1. In the Key field, enter your source's Write Key in Segment. To find it, open the "Blip" source page in Segment and go to Settings → API Keys → Write Key.

  1. Under Region, select your Segment account region: US or EU.

  2. Click Save. The extension validates the key, registers the webhook in your bot, and starts sending events to Segment automatically.

Important: select the region corresponding to your Segment account. When you save, the extension validates the key. If it is incorrect, the installation fails and the extension displays the message "Could not install the plugin. Check that the key is correct."

 

Use cases

Because Segment forwards events to other tools, you can use bot data outside Blip. A marketing team can identify the source of contacts and feed campaigns. A sales team can cross-reference bot interactions with the CRM to qualify leads. A support team can measure response times and track handoffs based on message and tracking events. In BI, you can consolidate conversations into dashboards such as Power BI or Looker using the events received by Segment.
