Activation Number

At this stage, it is necessary to understand and decide whether the number to be activated is:

  • A number already used in the WhatsApp app (Business or Messenger).
  • A new number (never used in the app).

Additionally, it is possible to use either a landline or mobile number for activation. If you choose a landline, there are some important precautions to take. These are:

  • During activation, Meta will perform a verification by sending a code via SMS or a call. If using a landline, you must choose the call verification option.
  • For mobile verification, you will need to deactivate the IVR or PABX system, if you have one.

Once you activate the WhatsApp Business API, you will no longer be able to use the WhatsApp app or web interface. The only available interface will be through Blip Desk, our support interface.

 

A number already used in the app

If the number is currently being used in the WhatsApp app, it must be deleted from the app in order to activate it on the WhatsApp API. Why? Meta considers these to be two separate tools, meaning a number cannot be activated on the API if it is already active on the app. See the image below to understand what will happen if the number is activated without being deleted:

 

 

What to do to activate my number in use?

You will need to follow the deletion of the number from the app during the activation process. In this WhatsApp article, you'll find a step-by-step guide for the process.

After deletion, you must wait 3 minutes before it becomes available for activation in the API. Important: With the deletion of the number in the app, even if a backup was made in the WhatsApp app, all the chat history will be lost. Therefore, as a solution, you can change the number in the app to one that you do not use (it can be either a landline or mobile number) to save the history.

 

A new number

If you decide to use a new number, whether landline or mobile, in Blip Go!, there’s no problem. In this case, you just need to have the number available to receive a code during activation, either via SMS or phone call.
