[Extension] How to use Google Sheets as your chatbot's database in Blip October 23, 2026 18:30 Updated Introduction How to configure reading in the flow Support Brief description: Read entire ranges from a Google Sheets spreadsheet during the conversation, such as price tables, catalogs, and lists of options, and use the data in the bot flow without creating an API. IntroductionKeeping prices, catalogs, and lists of options directly in the bot flow is time-consuming: every change requires editing and republishing the flow. With the Google Sheets extension, you keep this data in a spreadsheet, and the bot reads the range during the conversation. The spreadsheet becomes the chatbot's database, and the person responsible for the content can update the spreadsheet without changing the flow. The Get values from a range action reads a range of cells that you define and returns the content to a flow variable. It can be used to look up a price table, list products from a catalog, or build menu options from the spreadsheet, all without creating an API or relying on development. To retrieve the row of a single record by a value, see the row search pill. Before you startMake sure you already have: The Google Sheets extension enabled in the bot. Enable Google Sheets in the Blip Store. Signed in with your Google account on the extension's Settings screen, with spreadsheet permissions granted. The Builder browser extension installed. It adds the New integration button to Builder and has the Install extension link on the extension's Settings screen. A Google Sheets spreadsheet with the data organized in rows and columns. The connected Google account must have access to this spreadsheet. The spreadsheet ID and the range you want to read (for example, the range of a price table). How to configure reading in the flowThe integration runs as a block exit action. Place the block at the point in the flow where you need the spreadsheet data. In Builder, click New integration to add an integration block to the flow. Open the block and, on the Integration tab, select Google Sheets. In the Action field, choose Get values from a range. In Spreadsheet ID, enter the spreadsheet identifier. It is in the URL, between /d/ and /edit. In Range, enter the sheet and the range of cells you want to read, for example Sheet1!A2:C10 for a list of products. In Save response, enter the Result variable. It receives the range content as a list of rows, and each row is a list of the cells in that row. Publish the flow and run a test to check the response. Use the result variable in the next blocks, referencing the rows and columns by their positions. ImportantThe range must be correct, and the connected Google account must have access to the spreadsheet. If the range is incorrect, empty, or outside the specified sheet, the result variable will not return the expected data. Check the sheet name and cell range before publishing.
