Number portability in WhatsApp API July 29, 2024 15:08 Updated The number portability process is a process designed by Meta that allows an active number with a BSP (Business Solution Provider) to be linked to another BSP. Before we begin, it's important to understand that: Origin BSP: provider where the number is currently active. Destination BSP: provider where the number will be activated. For this process to be completed, some key points are essential: Have access to the same Business Manager (BM) where the number was activated with the origin BSP, with admin permission. Two-factor authentication disabled. The number in question can receive SMS or an international voice call. Approved display name. These points will allow for the creation of a new WABA (WhatsApp Business Account) for the portability to be carried out. ATTENTION! The display name approval must be done with the origin BSP; the destination BSP cannot handle the approval and update of the number. After the creation of the WABA, the destination BSP is responsible for the migration process of the number to the new structure. Due to the process guidelines provided by Meta, it is no longer necessary to perform the migration between Cloud API and On-Premises structures for successful migration. Remember that when migrating the number, information such as number quality, official account badge, service tier, display name remains the same, and approved templates are copied to the new WABA. Common questions about this process: What is the role of the origin BSP in number portability? The origin BSP is responsible for removing the two-factor authentication from the number. After this removal, the rest can be done by the client and the destination BSP. They are also responsible for supporting the display name approval. The destination BSP is responsible for helping with number portability and ensuring it works in the new structure, as well as supporting any questions and access issues. How to disable two-factor authentication? You can request the removal of authentication from the BSP where the number is active, or if you have access to the WABA, you can carry out the process. To access the instructions provided by Meta for disabling, just click here. I no longer have access to the business manager, what should I do? The BSP does not have access to your business manager; they only have access to the WABA. In this case, you need to inform the BSP to which the number will be migrated so they can support you with the situation. Is it possible to migrate a number that is running on the Cloud API? Yes, with Meta's updates, it is no longer necessary for the number to be migrated to On-Premises to complete the portability process.
